Summer in Amsterdam summer in amsterdam

What to do when you spend the summer in Amsterdam? There are tons of activities to do! Eventhough Amsterdam is not awake 24/7 (not like Berlin for example), it’s a place of opportunities. If you want to have a combination of activities and a bit of relaxing, then the list below is for you.

Museums

Of course, when you spend the summer in Amsterdam, you have to visit a few museums. There’s the famous Van Gogh museum, Rijksmusem and the Hermitage. The Hermitage in Amsterdam is not as big as the one in Russia, but it’s worth a visit. It can get quite hot in Amsterdam, so be sure to plan the trips to the museums in the morning. Then you have the afternoon off for relaxation! If it’s too hot, then we advice you to visit these museums in the afternoon, because they have airconditioning!

Beaches in Amsterdam

Are there beaches in Amsterdam? Yes, for sure! These are not the beaches as you know them probably, but they do have sand and water. You can visit Ijburg. Here you can find the big beach of Amsterdam. You can take a swim here if you like. There are a few restaurants located there to grab a beer and a snack. Want to discover another beach? Well we wouldn’t really call it a beach… It’s at Pllek. This is located in the North of the city (across the canal, NSDM). This is a restaurant made out of containers. You have sand in the front at the water where you can hang out. You can take a swim if you like!

Shop till you drop

Amsterdam doesn’t have shopping malls, except for de Bijenkorf. Near de Bijenkorf you have a lot of shopping streets with all the famous brands. If you want to discover more handicraft stores or smaller stores, then take a walk to the 9 straatjes. This area is behind the big shopping streets. You can spend hours in the small shops. Do take a stop in between to look out over the beautiful old canals in this area.

Amsterdam has a lot more to offer. But at least now you know which are the three most popular ones to when you are in Summer in Amsterdam. When visiting Amsterdam, be sure to book a nice hostel for yourself. Hostel Amsterdam Leidscheplein offers you a comfortable place to stay at an affordable rate.
