The Anne Frank Museum is another mandatory site to visit. It is the building where Anne and her family hid during World War II. Visit the Museumplein where the city’s contemporary art museum is located, as well as the famous Van Gogh and Rijksmuseum.
Explore the best neighbourhoods in Amsterdam
The old Jewish quarter in Jodenbuurt is one area that you cannot afford to miss when visiting Amsterdam. It is here that you will find the Portuguese-Israelite Synagogue, Rembrandt’s House, the Waterlooplein fleamarket and the Jewish Historical Museum. At the city centre you will find the Dam Square, the wax figures at Madame Tussauds and the Royal Place. The city is known for its free spirit and refined cultural experience, and tourists are never disappointed.
Markets and Shopping in Amsterdam
The most frequented and famous markets are the Albert Cuyp and the Waterlooplein flea market. On Singel Canal is the floating flower market (the bloemenmarkt) that has an array of plants and flowers that create a very impressive spectacle. Boutiques, cafes and restaurants, bars, specialty shops and jewelers are located on the 9 streets, also called De Negen Straatjes.
