With a capacity of 54,000, it is the largest sports stadium in the country and is the official home ground of the Amsterdam based football team AFC Ajax, a club with a long and rich footballing history. A player who has contributed largely to history of the club is the late great Johan Cruyff, one of the greatest footballers of all time. Cruff is so beloved in his home country that the decision was taken in April 2017 to rename the Amsterdam Arena to the Johan Cruyff Arena.
